Robie Pierce Regatta

Robie Pierce Regatta

For the second year in a row the Ideal 18 members agreed to lend two of our boats to the Robie Pierce Regatta. This coupled with a women's regatta is a four day event that ran through last weekend. 24 boats competed.

Our boat, Cody was crewed by a pair of blind sailors and Sojourner was helmed by a skipper paralyzed from a back injury and crew with ms. Cody had some problems the first day and didn't finish some of the races on Friday. Sojourner had a second in a race on Friday. She was in sixth place at the end of day Saturday. We were able to get in two races on Sunday final standings should be posted in yachtscoring at some point.

Regardless of the results the sailing was greatly enjoyed. For many of these folks this is a once a year opportunity to sail. Many have no sailing experience but the ability to get into a boat and spend a day racing in the sun is precious.

Horseshoe was mentioned in the list of sponsors and supporters. We are very happy to have made it possible for four sailors to have a glorious long weekend on the water.
